Sonya Hill

WorldSkills Champions Trust representative for Americas, WorldSkills

Portrait of Sonya Hill.

Sonya Hill’s desire to compete at WorldSkills led her to train in Mobile Robotics, a skill that suits her “troubleshooting mindset” and love for programming. A graduate in Industrial Systems Engineering from the Caribbean Maritime University in Kingston, Jamaica, Sonya now works in the solar energy sector, driven by concerns about climate change. Choosing countryside living as an “invigorating and cost-effective option,” Sonya describes WorldSkills as a “life-changing opportunity” that taught her time management and built her confidence and determination. As a WorldSkills Champions Trust representative, Sonya promotes TVET to young people as an exciting career pathway that develops local and global economies. She aspires to encourage more women to pursue careers in male-dominated fields, drawing from her own experience in robotics and engineering.
